The Original Morbid Rod.

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Here’s a blast from the past. A few days ago I stumbled across a few more pictures of the original Morbid Rod and thought I’d add them and bump this post back to the top to show everyone the car that started Morbid Rodz. This car was built over the course of many months during 2005 – 2006 in a small shop here in Paris, Texas. It started life as a 1930 – 31 Ford Model A sedan but was highly modified with a chop and channel job. The frame started life as a 36 pickup piece that was boxed and clipped with Corvette donor suspension front and rear and the finished sedan body was mated to it. The same Corvette donated it’s drive train to this beast and after hours and hours of work the car was finished and terrorizing the streets.

The original Morbid Rod featured several unique touches that would later on be used on almost every rat rod that rolled out of the shop. Features such as chopped roof profiles, channeling the body over the frame, aluminum roof skins and braces, and wrenches modified for things like accelerator pedals and handles. This car also had a fully custom grill shell, a miniature coffin air breather, flame thrower exhaust, custom skull shaped tail lights, and chainsaw chain accents around the roof line to complete the horror theme. The car was a blast to ride in but eventually it was sold on Ebay to fund the next project and the shop known as Morbid Rodz was born!

Model A roadster powered by a 6 duece small block

Friday, July 16th, 2010

Here’s another Model A roadster that’s coming together at Morbid Rodz. This one is a bit unique as it’s going to be powered by a small block Chevy engine topped with a vintage Weiand Drag Star 6 deuce intake. The carbs will be Ford/Holley 94’s and to complete the vintage look we’ve sourced a set of original Cal Customs finned valve covers. Everything has been mocked up and most of the car is now disassembled for final fit and finish work.

In other news, the 69 Chevy shortbed truck is now on Ebay. Check it out!

More upcoming Model A projects, the 69 Chevy parts hauler, and a Dodge Brothers coupe.

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

Here’s a peak at a couple more projects. One is a Model A 5 window coupe that’s been chopped and channeled and has a Jaguar IRS in the back. The other is a Model A roadster that will be kept semi-traditional and will be done highboy style.

Then we have the new shop truck/parts hauler, which is a 69 Chevy shortbed that has airbag suspension all the way around and rides on a sweet set of 20 inch wheels/tires. It’s powered by a fairly mild small block backed by an automatic and is a good daily driver. I’m sure it’ll stick around for a bit longer and then will be offered for sale online.

And lastly we have a few more pictures of Jesse Freelen’s Dodge Brothers coupe that we chopped the top on some time back. It’s almost finished and was at the cruise night on the square in downtown Paris this past Friday night.

A first look at upcoming projects.

Friday, June 25th, 2010

Here’s a first look at two upcoming projects. The first is a WWII era Willys MB Jeep. This one is an early production model and has the metal slat grill and not the traditional stamped slotted steel grill. Overall the body is in great shape and should make an awesome build so be sure to look for updates coming soon.

The second project coming up soon is a Ford Model A 5 window coupe that’s going to receive a new frame underneath it. The top has already been chopped and the body is in excellent shape.

She’s finished out in Satin black and has had the top chopped three inches. There’s a new Walker radiator, grill shell, Flaming River tilt column, and a Super Bell dropped axle. Currently the car is re-listed on Ebay due to no contact from the winning bidder. You can check it out at
